Encounter inside GMC Kathua Between Gangster and Jammu and Kashmir Police:
Kathua, April 2: An encounter inside Government Medical College(GMC) Kathua between Police and a Gangster occurred around 10:00 pm – 10:30 pm inside GMC Kathua premises near abounded emergency block GMC Kathua late night Tuesday.
A gangster was shot and died in GMC Kathua and a probationary Sub-Inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police died due to head injuries during the encounter.
According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police identified the Martyr Probationary Sub-Inspector as Deepak Sharma of Udhampur. They said he was posted in the Samba district. A special police officer was also injured in the shootout.
The decreased gangster was identified as Vasudev alias Shunnu resident of Ramgarh, Samba district. He was a hardcore criminal and many FIRs were registered against him in the past the police said. He has also a connection in the Akashy murder case of last year
As per sources, PSI Sharma was the investigating officer in the Akshay murder case, and the team of officials, of Ramgarh police station, Samba district. They got a tip-off that gangsters were meeting at GMC Kathua. Police were waiting for them in the GMC Kathua. When the Shunnu and his gang members arrived at the location in a white Haryana registered vehicle in the while gangster saw the policemen in plain clothes, gangster started firing openly. During the encounter, the gangster entered the GMC Kathua abandoned Emergency Block of GMC.
However, PSI Sharma shot Shunnu dead but he and SPO were injured during the encounter. PSI Sharma was rushed to the hospital in Punjab but he died from serious head injuries during treatment in a private hospital in Punjab. Sharma was married 6 months ago.
The other gang members of Shunnu were escaped from the location in the vehicle.
After the incident, SSP Kathua, Shivdeep Singh Jamwal arrived at GMC Kathua late Tuesday night.
